Never saw the original film, but I loved the book. Looking forward to Raimi's take on it.
I saw the original because I'm an avid Vincent Price fan, but I have hopes for this, especially for Sam Raimi's sake. His career needs a much-needed jolt after Sony fucked him out of Spider-Man.
Oh dear god no. I can just see it now. It's going to be all cgi, and they are going to have bladed tentacles that roar...and they'll be defeated by pesticided or somehting retarded. And someone is going to do a three stooges routine for no fucking reason. Why not give one of the better scifi stories of the last centuries to a director whose proven he can handle scifi with some subtlety. Like Blomkamp. His style would be PERFECT for triffids.Hell, the 28 days later guy essentially made a triffid movie without the blindness aspect and with zombies...
Dave might well have a point (no, we're not the same person). The BBC did a two-part remake recently and it was embarrassing to watch. The triffids were basically CGI monsters whipping people with tentacles, there were countless dumb action movie moments (including Eddie Izzard as a moustache-twirling villan) and the whole thing just played out like a cheesy B-movie. Although I love Evil Dead and Spider-Man, I'm kind of worried Raimi's just going to do the same half-assed monster shit the BBC did. Fair enough if he wants to make another tongue in cheek genre spoof a lá Evil Dead II but I wish he wouldn't take such a genuinely good book as his jumping-off point. That's Hollywood, I guess.
