Cobra is Blackwater in New "G.I. Joe 2" Trailer

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" has a new trailer, which answers some questions as to how much of the story from the (unfairly-maligned, IMO) original film is actually being continued here. Answer: A whole bunch.

It also makes it clear that it will continue the first film's anti-private-military-contractor theme; with Cobra (formerly "M.A.R.S.") now emerging as a Blackwater-esque force brought in ostensibly to protect the U.S. from the (framed) "traitorous" Joes.

For the first time in my life, I'm actually hoping for an IMAX release.

It will be worth it JUST for the ninjas-on-a-mountain scene.

Y'know, I'm not a G.I. Joe fan by any means, but... I don't hate this at all. As long as they keep the TRANSFORMERS-style smut right out, I could see myself paying for it.

Dominic hit the nail on the head there- the main appeal of the first GI Joe film, though FAAAAR from perfect, was that it did all of the toyetic gubbins without any of Bay's pornographic sensibility, and it looks like they've greatly improved the sequel too.
Also: given the lack of Tatum in the trailers, do we think he's going to bite it early on in the movie?

No Eccleston? Boo. Guy can't stick to a franchise.

I am massively disappointed to find out that Channing Tatum is still alive. Load of ass.

I am huge G.I. Joe fan--animated and comic book--and I liked the first movie. I didn't care for how some characters--especially the female ones--were handled, but overall it wasn't any more ridiculous than a typical episode of the Sunbow cartoons.

This movie actually looks really promising. They're stitching together at least three storylines from the Larry Hama comics, but it actually looks like it makes sense.

Wait, I know the president isn't the president, but who the fuck are they at war with here, if Cobra aren't the bad guys? Whatever.

I was born in 1992 so I wasn't a fan of G.I. Joe (I really don't even know if that means anything, but main point: never was a fan; I didn't know it) but I saw the first movie on Netflix and it was pretty awesome.

And this looks SO COOL!

Like, The Rock (and Bruce Willis!) instead of Channing Tatum? Yes please. I think it was you, Bob who made the remark that Dwayne was supposed to be an action star but only really got to be in parodies of action movies, but here seems to be his big action role fo' rizzo.

And a motorcycle-missles? Take my money now!!
